Apple has officially released FaceTime app in the Mac App Store. While in the beta testing phase this app was a free download, but users must now pay $0.99 to download this app. As reported by MacWorld It is believed that this charge is due to regulatory issues that Apple must charge for. Those who are looking to download the free beta version must now pay a dollar for the popular video chat software.

Apple told me that the FaceTime $1 charge for existing Mac users is regulatory related (remember the $2 802.11n patch circa 2007?).

Although this is a paid purchase, it is intended for existing Mac hardware owners. FaceTime now comes preloaded on all new Apple computers.

FaceTime allows for easy video chat between other computers, the iPhone 4, and the iPad 2.
